AWS Polly for Windows

1 min read

Just had a read of the announcement for Polly for Windows.

Key take aways:

  • It will call out to AWS rather than execute a local version of Polly.
  • It will only work on a 64 bit OS.

For the announcement post: https://forums.aws.amazon.com/ann.jspa?annID=7104

For the docs: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/polly/latest/dg/sapi-plugin.html

Why might you care? Well if you’re adding text to speech into your windows applications:

“Out of the box, Windows provides one SAPI male and one female voice that can be used with the API. Use the Amazon Polly for Windows plugin to add the much wider range of Amazon Polly voices to your SAPI-supported voice application. All Amazon Polly voices, including both standard and neural voices as well as the newscaster speaking style, can be used with the plugin.”
