AWS recently announced in April their updates to Deep Racer with their additions of a virtual circuit!

In case you don’t know: AWS DeepRacer is a 1/18th scale four-wheel drive car with a considerable amount of onboard hardware and software. Starting at re:Invent 2018 and continuing with the AWS Global Summits, you have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with a DeepRacer. At these events, you can train a model using reinforcement learning, and then race it around a track. The fastest racers and their laptimes for each summit are shown on AWS Deep Racer leaderboards.

I was fortunate enough to have a go in the Sydney Summit league!

As the story goes I went and had a go with David Bramwell-Cooke from IR as seen here:

I have since found out that you can run sagemaker in local mode also so you don’t have to train your models on AWS tin. Shout out to Elijah from A Cloud Guru for that tip 🙂

Get started with Deep Racer and you may win a trip to Vegas Baby! https://aws.amazon.com/deepracer/getting-started/ It’s lots of fun and good learning. I recommend it.
